Last week, some of our wonderful students Year 11 connected with nature and enjoyed a moment of tranquillity in our new Sensory Garden at Burnaby House. Officially opening in September, it was the vision of the 2019/20 Girls’ Leadership Group (GLG) who wanted to create an outdoor space for students to take a break from their studies, a place to find calm, a sanctuary. It will also allow teachers to bring their class to enjoy outdoor learning opportunities.
The beautiful garden was kindly designed by Mr Scott who is a parent of the school, MD and Principal Designer at The Garden Co. At a young age he designed one of the gardens on the main strip at Chelsea. The Alumnae, the Bedford High School Guild and the PTA all generously donated funds to turn the vision into a reality.
The garden incorporates a raised-beds for growing organic vegetables for the use at Greens, promoting the importance of gardening and the benefits it brings to mental and physical health. The garden as it blooms will be an array of soothing colours and scents, as well as being attractive to our bee population.
Come September, we are hoping to host events for the whole school community and enabling alumnae to reunite with friends for coffee in this lovely outdoor space.
