Sixth Form The Bridge Careers Service

Miss Drapela (Careers and Sixth Form Administrator)

On Wednesday, The Bridge Career Service hosted their annual Higher Education event, and the first one to be held in school after a period of restrictions.

It began in the afternoon, where the Lower Sixth students were off timetables and participating in an afternoon of discovery on topics such as, How to write a Personal Statement, How to choose the right University or Course, and Medicine Applications. The afternoon even included a presentation on Art portfolio and Audition advice so we could represent all of our students' diverse passions. We were pleased to be joined by representatives from different universities both near and far including Newcastle University, University of Birmingham, and many more. It was a fantastic afternoon and a wonder to see so many students captured by each presentation and the valuable information our speakers had to offer as they started to prepare for their transition into Higher Education.

However, the excitement did not end in the afternoon, but rather led to our evening portion of the event where we welcomed Lower Sixth parents for refreshments and another proceeding of presentations similar to those in the afternoon. Parents gathered in the Assembly hall for a brief introduction led by our Director of Sixth Form and Head of Careers, then off our parents went into specialised breakaway presentations. In addition to inviting a few of our guest speakers back for the evening, we were also joined by Dr Mark Wormald, of Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, who presented a thorough workshop on Oxbridge Admissions, interviews, and much more. Many parents were left well-informed and appreciative of the time they had with each representative, some even staying longer to discover further.

We thank all of our guest speakers for being a part of our event, as this was an important event for both student and parent to explore the necessary tools needed to prepare for their journey into Higher Education, and we hope to invite many of our guests back next year for another remarkable information event.
