The Boat Club returned to school following a very busy weekend of racing this week, with over 70 BGS rowers competing across two days. On Saturday 19th November, our senior coxed four of Alexandra Gentry, Lottie Giles, Emily Coughlin, Anna Beckmann and Chloe Howe travelled to London to compete in The Fours Head of the River Race.
This is a national event, with fours competing from across the country in senior, university and junior categories. Our four took to the infamous Tideway stretch of the River Thames with confidence, competing on the Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race course they put in a fantastic performance to finish in 7th place in a very competitive field. This is a fantastic result, and one of the best on a National level achieved by BGS rowers in a number of years.
On Sunday 20th November, on our return from London, BGS rowers were out in force on home water. 60 rowers from years 10-13 competed in Star Head, hosted by local club Star Rowing Club. All of our rowers put in some great performances, with our year 11-13 rowers rowing the course in multiple divisions, and the results did not disappoint. Of the 8 events entered, BGS rowers took top three placings in 7. Achieving wins in the J16 8+, J16 4x-, J16 4+ and Women’s Senior 4+ events.
These results truly show the level of work and commitment that each and every one of our rowers puts into their training on a daily basis, and are an exciting demonstration of the progress that the Boat Club continues to make.
Our rowers now get back to training hard ahead of their Christmas break, and look forward to our BGS Christmas Racing on Saturday 3rd December!
