11 budding navigators from across Year 5 are starting a journey to hone their skills in navigation.
Towards the end of the summer term, they will wander into the Bedfordshire countryside, applying their map reading skills, camp craft, outdoor cooking and identifying features in nature including edible weeds. They will even add these to their lunches (dried stinging nettles anyone?).
Working as a team, they will learn to ensure that they are responsible when exploring the outdoors and supporting each other when the going gets tough.
Here are some reflections from the Year 5 pupils:
“I am looking forward to understanding more about nature as we go outdoors.”
“I’m excited to expand my curiosity for the outdoors, how to do first aid and to learn to cook on a Trangia.”
“I look forward to learning new skills about the outdoors and key skills in map reading.”
“I can’t wait to be able to map read, use a compass and a Trangia.”
