By Ella Allen (Lower Sixth)

We are all incredibly excited for the upcoming BGS Model United Nations (MUN) conference which we will be hosting on Friday 16th June.

MUN  is run by students and so there are a group of us in the Lower Sixth who have been working hard to prepare for the day. So far this has involved deciding upon committees and topics, writing committee guides as well as choosing and assigning delegations. We have also got a large number of first-time delegates from our school, particularly from year 10, who will be attending and so the students who will be chairing the committee as well as other experienced delegates have been working with them to help write position papers. It is really lovely to see students in different year groups working together and I really hope they enjoy the conference and use it as an opportunity to gain confidence and meet new people.

We have also been working with Bedford School, who have recently established MUN. Before Easter we visited Bedford School to meet some of their delegates and support their newly appointed Chairs in explaining MUN procedures; we also had fun by running a mock committee session on the topic of the lack of aesthetic cohesiveness in global flag design. The Bedford School students were very enthusiastic and really got involved with the practice debate and it was a very enjoyable session to run.

We look forward to welcoming students from Bedford Modern, Bedford School and Kimbolton School to join us for a day of debate. I’m certain it will be an incredibly interesting and fun day.
