By Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)
Last week, Year 6 held an exciting learning experience connected with our current PYP Unit of Inquiry on human migration. The event welcomed family members to talk about their own personal experiences of migration. A really diverse range of migrations were talked about including migrating from/ to South Africa, Ukraine, New Zealand, France, the Bahamas, and Sicily.
This event was particularly meaningful as it directly tied into one of our main concepts in this unit of understanding alternative perspectives. By listening to these first-hand accounts, the girls gained unique insights into the emotions, challenges, and triumphs experienced by individuals navigating the complex journey of migration.
The personal stories highlighted both the highs and lows of migration, discussing not only the practical aspects of moving but also the emotional and cultural aspects. The speakers shared the feelings they had before migrating and the difficulties they faced once they had arrived in a new country. For many, although the language spoken was the same, the differences in how to navigate everyday life were still immense. It did seem that for those people who migrated to England, the weather was a frequent topic of discussion!
