By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)
Last Wednesday (1st May) saw the beginning of a new Junior School club; WonderGirls Life Skills.
With a focus on essential life skills, this club is not just about acquiring knowledge; it's about fostering confidence, independence, and a sense of capability in our girls. Each session is a journey of discovery and empowerment with the aim of creating a seamless life skills and careers provision from Years 3 right through to the Upper Sixth.
This week, the girls were mastering basic first aid techniques, looking specifically at how to clean and bandage a small wound. The girls watched a small demonstration by St Johns Ambulance before working in pairs to practise treating each other using the four principles of pressure, raise, clean and dry and apply sterile dressing. This week we will focus on how to recognise when someone is choking and how to put someone in the recovery position.
The girls are particularly looking forward to honing their culinary skills when we look at basic food hygiene and cooking skills. They are embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. In just 20 minutes, they're eager to absorb knowledge and apply it in their everyday lives.
I am really looking forward to developing practical life skills!
