On Friday 11th October, our U11s (Year 6) played in their first-ever IAPS football tournament and came close to qualifying for the National Finals on their first attempt.
The U11 football team travelled to Fairfield Prep School to compete in their regional IAPS qualifier.
Although this was our first time entering an IAPS football competition, the team embraced the challenge with determination. Their first group game was against Berkhamsted, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Energised by this solid start, the girls went on to beat The Elms 2-0, Wolverhampton Grammar 3-1, and Repton 3-0, before narrowly losing 1-0 to the hosts, Fairfield Prep.
Having qualified for the quarterfinals, the team then beat Tranby on penalties. Unfortunately, they lost to Repton on penalties in the semi-final and were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Berkhamsted in the third/fourth playoff.
The girls were outstanding, as was their football. To come so close to qualifying for the National Finals was a fantastic achievement, setting up BGS for more football success in the future.
