Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

On Monday morning, the Year 4 girls set off for their visit to the Tower of London.

The dungeon and Bloody Tower caused many of the girls to shudder and consider how lucky they are to be living in the 21st century. Having marvelled at the armour and weapons on display in the White Tower, the girls had lunch and made their way to their taught sessions, led by actors in Tudor costumes.

The girls really excelled themselves, showing their understanding of the need to find evidence based facts, and several sources to verify the truth of a tale or rumour from history. One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the chamber in which Sir Walter Rayleigh was imprisoned no less than three times, something the girls have considered in their guided reading of Michael Morpurgo’s My Friend Walter novel. It was a wonderful trip, which has helped to deepen the girls’ understanding of the Tudor era.
