Mrs Schofield (Head OF Year 4)

As part of their PYP Unit of Inquiry focusing on past civilisations, Year 4 have been using their research skills to find out how some of the ancient civilisations made pots to facilitate food and water storage in their daily lives.

The girls researched on various websites to find out about these traditions, and made sketches of their favourite designs. These sketches have inspired them to make their own clay pots, some using ancient coiling techniques and pinch pot moulding, techniques that have not changed from 4500 years ago!

Making their designs certainly proved to be challenging, but perseverance and helpful advice from their peers, ensured each achieved their goal. The girls will now investigate how different influences have changed the decorative nature of the pots over time. They really have enjoyed this project and have produced some fantastic pots.
