Sixth Form

Last Saturday, BGS took part in the global Lockheed Martin Code Quest competition. Aimed at predominantly Sixth Form students, the school also entered two Year 11 teams and one Year 10 team. This year, the competition took place virtually with teams across the globe working together to solve coding problems created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers.

Poppy (Year 10) reflected: “It was a huge challenge for us to keep up with the same level of coding. However difficult it was at times, I still really enjoyed the experience and am very proud of our overall performance in the competition. I’m already looking forward to next year's.”

Mr Potter (Director of Digital Strategy) said: “We enter our students into many competitions across different age groups. As well as the benefits of working as part of a team in a global competition, the Lockheed Martin competition also showcases what it is like to work in a multinational company with a STEM focus, and what skills students will need to succeed. Through this competition, we have also been able to make links with the Lockheed Martin Women in STEM committee and we will look to work together to give our students further opportunities.”
