We are thrilled to announce that 12 BGS hockey players have been selected for the U15 and U17 England Hockey Performance Centre in Northwood for the 2021/2022 season.
Players are nominated to attend a Performance Centre by their County Academy Centre. Players who consistently demonstrate strong skills for their counties and then in the Performance Centre Assessment days are invited to England Hockey Performance Centres. This hopefully leads to selection for the Futures Cup and then on to represent the England U16s and England U18s.
Mr Mason-Mcleod said: “To have 12 students selected for the England Hockey Performance Centre is a great achievement for the students and the School. The students have worked really hard to develop their hockey at School, club and county and this has resulted in them being picked to be part of the U15 or U17 squads at the Northwood Performance Centre.
“We are especially proud to have goalkeepers, Lara Wildon, Grace Thomson and Amelia Barrow-Jones selected as spaces for this position are very limited. These students are role models and we hope this inspires more students to push themselves in and outside of School to get themselves into the England Hockey pathway and hopefully represent England at U16s and U18s. We have had Florence Miller (Upper Sixth) and BGS alumnae Maddie (2021) and Kate Axford (2017) represented England recently. Natasha Miller, Lauren Whitlock and Megan Howlett have all had England trials so hockey is really progressing at BGS.”
Congratulations to the following players:
Amelia Barrow-Jones, Megan Howlett, Isabel Jackson, Ria Lakhan, Molly Lincoln, Erin Macfarlane, Natasha Miller, Jessica Parrish, Grace Thomson, Gabriela Woodroffe-Gomez, Lauren Whitlock and Lara Wildon.
We wish our players a fantastic season at the Performance Centre. We are very proud of your achievement to date and are looking forward to your successes in the future!
