On Tuesday 21st November, our Year 6 girls embarked on an enriching educational visit to the Science Museum in London, which seamlessly aligned with our second Primary Years Programme (PYP) Unit of Inquiry. The focus of this unit revolves around the evolution of technology, particularly in the realm of medicine, and the impact it has had on our lives. This excursion provided the girls with a unique opportunity to bridge classroom learning with real-world exploration.

As they navigated through the exhibits, our girls actively engaged in generalisation, honing their skills in identifying patterns, discerning similarities and understanding differences. The visit encouraged evolutionary and revolutionary thinking, fostering an environment where the girls could identify innovative ideas that have shaped the landscape of medicine and technology.

The trip wasn't just about learning; it aimed to empower our girls with critical thinking skills. They used these skills to explore medical and technological progress, carefully evaluating facts to understand their importance. Their reflections showed a deeper understanding of the topic and they expressed their new knowledge thoughtfully during the visit.

Naya (Year6) said: “I really enjoyed learning about DNA and seeing the model of the double helix. It was great to hear about Rosalind Franklin’s contribution to this.”

Aavani (Year 6) added: “It was interesting to hear how medicine changed during World War I. How they managed to heal people in the trenches was amazing.”
