By Señora Fudger-Galvez (Spanish Teacher)
On Wednesday 17th January, Year 5 enjoyed a culinary experience that reinforced their learning of food-related vocabulary and enriched their understanding of the Spanish language and culture through food.
The hands-on workshop involved the preparation of delicious Spanish dishes in Randle Hall, led by our Catering Manager, Mr Pickard, with the support of the Year 5 tutors, teaching assistants, and myself.
All the Year 5 girls actively participated in this lively, hands-on activity, answering questions about the food they were preparing and learning about the origins and cultural relevance of the recipes and ingredients. This exploration spanned the Spanish diaspora, including Spain, Central, and South America. They all then relished sampling the delightful Pan con Tomate y Jamón (Bread, Tomato, and Spanish Ham), Ensaladilla Rusa (Potato Salad), and el pastel de las tres leches (Milk Cake).
The workshop provides a glimpse into the heart of Spanish cuisine, encouraging the girls to appreciate its essence and enjoy making these iconic dishes.
