Junior School Eco and Sustainability

By Mrs Baker (Year 5 Teacher)

The Year 5 teachers are thrilled to share the remarkable achievements of our Year 5 pupils who have undertaken the challenge of creating innovative services to address various issues within their local communities as part of last term’s Active Inquiry. From advocating for road safety to tackling littering concerns, organising dog walks and book swaps to bring local communities together to delivering homemade bakes to care homes and establishing pen pal schemes with the elderly residents, our students have demonstrated remarkable commitment to making a positive difference. Notably, many of these projects have evolved into sustainable endeavours with plans for long-lasting impact, showcasing the depth of their  dedication to community welfare.

It has been truly inspiring to hear their level of engagement, creativity and enthusiasm, whether presenting their proposals to local councils, writing community newsletters or writing letters to MPs; they have shown remarkable courage and determination in advocating for change. Their efforts show their compassion and sense of responsibility, many have been   recognised by their communities for creating positive change and we have been thrilled to see mentions of our students in the local press.

It has been wonderful to listen to the reflections from the students as they describe their sense of achievement from identifying and addressing local issues. We are so proud of them all  for their outstanding contributions and we look forward to hearing further news of the continued impact.
