Junior School Eco and Sustainability

By Mrs Whomsley (Junior School Eco-Coordinator)

Our Junior School Eco Reps were busy counting birds in our beautiful gardens behind Burnaby House on Monday lunchtime, as part of the RSPB’s School Birdwatch. We enjoyed identifying which birds were visiting the garden and counting how many we could see. We are so lucky to have so many trees and bushes to attract a range of birds and spotted magpies, pigeons, blackbirds and even a kite!

Immy (Year 4) said “It was fun to be with our friends watching the birds. It’s very important to do the birdwatch so we can find out if there are new birds visiting our garden and look out for new species.”

Evelyn (Year 5) added: “I saw blackbirds sitting in the trees in the garden. I think our garden gives the birds lots of space to build their nests and keep safe in the trees. I really enjoyed taking part in the birdwatch.”

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch takes place this weekend (27-29 January) and is a fun, free activity for everyone to take part in whilst carrying out important research about our local environment. For further details, visit the RSPB website here.
